Is Zoom Teeth Whitening the Same as Laser Teeth Whitening?

Laser teeth whitening and ZOOM!® teeth whitening are innovative options to get quick teeth whitening results. Frustration often results from using over-the-counter teeth-whitening kits, gels, and pens. People want to see results right away. Laser teeth whitening or Zoom can give you the smile you have always wanted. If you are wondering which one is better, here are the details.

How laser teeth whitening works

Laser teeth whitening starts with the dentist cleaning the patient’s teeth. Next, the dentist will fill any cavity or repair any damage. Protecting the patient’s gums, lips, and soft tissues of the mouth comes next. Then, the dentist will place protective eyewear on the patient. A shield partition in the mouth will lift the lips away from the teeth and gums. The dentist will make sure that the whitening gel does not get to these soft parts of the mouth.

Once the gel application is over, the dentist will expose the patient’s teeth to the laser. The heat of the laser will activate the whitening gel. Dental stains will break down from the activation of the hydrogen peroxide in the gel. Laser teeth whitening lasts for about an hour, including preparation and cleaning up. The length of the treatment depends on the number of teeth the dentist is targeting. Laser teeth whitening will treat one tooth at a time because of the narrow laser beam.

How Zoom teeth whitening works

Zoom is also a popular method of whitening teeth. It is also a clinic treatment. The dentist must protect the soft parts of the patient’s mouth first. Then, the application of the Zoom hydrogen peroxide gel comes next. The dentist will allow the gel to sit for about 15 minutes while receiving the Zoom LED or plasma light. This lamp shines on all of the patient’s teeth at the same time.

The light activates the gel, lightening the patient’s teeth. Dentists apply the Zoom treatment for three light activation sessions. Each session lasts for 15 minutes. The treatment has a total of 45 minutes. Most patients are happy with the Zoom teeth whitening treatment in the clinic.

The differences between Zoom and laser teeth whitening

Zoom filters out the infrared emissions, while laser teeth whitening does not. It whitens all of the patient’s teeth at the same time, while laser teeth whitening targets one tooth at a time. Quicker teeth whitening results come from Zoom treatments. Even so, patients with sensitive teeth have a difficult time tolerating the three consecutive Zoom sessions. They find laser teeth whitening easier to tolerate.

The similarities between Zoom and laser teeth whitening

These two teeth-whitening treatments use hydrogen peroxide gel to whiten teeth and break down stains. They both rely on oxidation to seep into the dentin and to break down the stains. The mentioned treatments give quick results. Patients enjoy instant whitening after one dental visit.
